Sacramento River

The Sacramento River is the largest rive in California and is one of the region’s best areas for fishing. The river is an icon of the area, running through four of the eight counties in the Shasta Cascade region. Not only a popular spot for fisherman, the Sacramento River is a hotbed for all kinds of outdoor recreation. Locals enjoy boating, paddle boarding, and rafting down the clear waters, while the multitude of surrounding trails make the Sacramento easy to appreciate from the bank as well.

Sundial Bridge

This pedestrian bridge reaches 217 feet into the sky and spans 710 feet across the Sacramento River. As an environmentally conscious structure, the Sundial Bridge was intentionally constructed without river footings to leave the salmon-spawning habitat below undisturbed. The deck is surfaced with translucent glass which is illuminated from beneath and glows aquamarine at night. The bridge also provides an easily accessible entry point for Redding's extensive trail system.

Parks, bathrooms, trailheads, and scenery along the trail make it a convenient and pleasant way to get some fresh air while enjoying Redding's famous river.
