Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area, nestled in beautiful oak woods on the Sacramento River between Chico and Red Bluff, offers year-round camping, fishing, boating, and hiking in an unspoiled natural setting. Located on South Avenue, the park is just three miles west of Highway 99 at Vina, or six miles east of Interstate 5 at Corning. Mount Lassen, Mount Shasta, and the Trinity Alps loom in the distance. Over a hundred plant species have been identified throughout the park; the most prominent is the large valley oak. The California black walnut, Oregon ash, black cottonwood, sycamore, and willow are also plentiful. Beneath the oaks and cottonwoods along the river is a profusion of elderberry, wild grape, other shrubs, and wildflowers in season. The fall colors are spectacular. The county park offers a boat-launching ramp, picnic grounds, a café, a privately operated trailer park with utility hookups, a small store, fishing bait, and boat dock.
