Description:
The redwoods in the Grizzly Creek area were what inspired Owen R. Cheatham, founder of Georgia-Pacific Corporation, to preserve this site in perpetuity. The Cheatham Grove is an exceptional stand of coast redwoods. The park is a quiet place to camp, hike, fish, swim and picnic. The Van Duzen River flows beside the campground. There is a visitor center.

The campground is open year-round and can accommodate up to 24' trailers and 30' motor homes as well as tents. There are no hook-ups.

How to Get There:
The park is 20 miles south east of Eureka on HWY. 101, then 17 miles east of HWY. 36.

 

Tips:
Reservations/permits: Recommend reservations for car camps Memorial Day-Labor Day. Call (800) 444-7275. Reservations are not necessary during rest of year. For group camp/picnic area reservations call park directly (707) 777-3683.

Basic visit recommendations: Walk through an ancient redwood forest at Cheatham Grove; enjoy a self-guided nature trail; experience the Van Duzen River for fishing in the winter and swimming in the summer.

Special events/programs: None/Nature walks, campfires and Junior Ranger programs during summer season.

Adjacent visitor attractions: Victorian village of Ferndale and Ft. Humboldt to the north. Humboldt Redwoods S.P. with Avenue of the Giants to the south, Ruth Lake to the east.

Car campsites - off season $12., on season $16. Showers need quarters. Environmental camp $11/night on season & $7/night off-season. Day-use $5/car.
