Chico/ParadiseArts, culture, historic mansions & tall green pines Chico is home to California State University and an eclectic downtown. The city's numerous art and glass blowing studios have led to Chico being named one of America's "Top 100 Art Communities." Paradise, a short drive from Chico, is where gold played an important part of the community's history. In 1859, the largest nugget ever found in California- 54 pounds was discovered in the area. Hidden treasures in the district include Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, now the largest municipal park west of the Mississippi River; and Gold Nugget Museum, which depicts area history from Native America to 1050. |
